Uganda Wells

A major initiative of the Rotary Club of Bainbridge Island for the 2007-2008 year is to provide clean water for citizens of the Kaberamaido and adjacent Districts in Uganda.

With a goal of drilling 50+ deep wells during the next three years, the club has launched a unique effort to enlist the financial support of a number of other Rotary Clubs both in this area and across the U.S., churches, organizations and individuals. Homes of Hope - Mexico

Homes of Hope

The Rotary Club of Bainbridge Island is noted for funding projects on the island or lending a hand where needed. They also fund many international projects such as drilling water wells in Uganda or awarding scholarships and sending students on foreign exchange programs. For the last two years, some adult Rotarians, spouses, youth Interactors, and other teens have been involved in a volunteer program that includes not only funding but also building homes in Mexico. In joint cooperation with Clear Path International, many islanders donated clothing, sewing supplies, etc. for Pakistan's earthquake survivors one weekend in February, 2006. These items were loaded into a shipping container with medical supplies for that area. Polio Plus

In 1985, Rotary launched PolioPlus, one of the most ambitious humanitarian programs ever undertaken by a private-sector organization. PolioPlus was the catalyst for the World Health Assembly's resolution in 1988 to eradicate polio. Today, thanks to Rotary's US$500 million commitment and its leadership in mobilizing volunteers, the world is on the threshold of eradicating the poliovirus. Read More
